EXHIBITION OF ENGRAVINGS
LIONS IN THE CITY
The Lions movement was founded in Chicago in 1917 by Melvin Jones and came to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1953. The Lions Club Luxembourg Country, which is honored to invite you to the "Lions in the City" print exhibition in Walferdange, was founded in 1967.
Lions Clubs International (LCI) is located in 210 countries. It has 1,450,000 members in 47,000 clubs worldwide. LCI has advisory status with the UN, UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO and the Council of Europe. It is the largest service club association in the world. Lions are valued and respected for their ideals, integrity and commitment to their official motto: "We Serve. It's more than a motto - it's a commitment.
The "Lions in the City" exhibit illustrates the humanism of the Lions Club. Our commitment is humanistic and rich in content: It is spontaneous, it is selfless. It is offered by men and women, all volunteers, whose only desire is to help. The size and scope of our organization has great advantages. We have a global reach and are able to mobilize resources internationally. But our service is locally focused. We serve our neighbors, one community at a time, sometimes one person at a time. We do the work ourselves.
Historically, Lions have been involved in sightlessness and blindness, and in a variety of signature projects: hunger relief, literacy, youth support, rare diseases, environmental conservation, childhood cancer and diabetes. Various causes, multiple projects at the club level... but only one leitmotiv: humanism, a founding and unifying value that makes a Lions Club a team of solidarity, a group of friends where each member finds his or her place and develops at his or her own pace.
