ALVLC funds research projects in Luxembourg
For instance, on 18 July 2012, the LIONS Action Vaincre le Cancer and the Fondation de Recherche Cancer et Sang a.s.b.l. signed an agreement in which the LIONS Action Vaincre le Cancer undertook to pay the Foundation a sum of €564,000 to finance the salaries of two researchers, Dr Claudia Cerella and Dr Michael Schnekenburger, engaged in a research project on the identification of new molecules of natural origin with anti-cancer properties. In addition, from 2014 until the end of the project, the LIONS Action Vaiincre le Cancer will cover the cost of consumables to the tune of €30,000 per year (€15,000 per researcher/year).
Other fields of activity
Since 2020 10 scientific projects in Luxembourg have been funded by the ALVLC:
1 master project,
3 thesis projects and
6 scientific projects.
The idea is to continue to financially support the researchers who have achieved the best results in the framework of the current projects.
Support for organisations
We support associations engaged in the support of ileostomates and colostomates in Luxembourg.
Help for patients
We help people in financial difficulty as a result of cancer.
Sponsorship of researchers
A mentoring project for young researchers in the biomedical and social fields is being developed.
Research support
Amounts received from a Lions club to sponsor a cancer researcher are doubled by the ALVLC.

Organized every October by Europa Donna Luxembourg, this race raises awareness of breast cancer.
Fondation Action LIONS Vaincre le Cancer was present with a stand on October 5, 2024 at the Broschtkriibslaf in Hesperange “am Parc”.
In Luxembourg, around 500 women are diagnosed with cancer every year. Studies show that 25 to 33% of cases could be linked to excess weight and lack of physical activity. Campaigns help to break taboos and encourage prevention.
SUPPORTING LIONS VAINCRE LE CANCER
Constituted in the form of a non-profit association, the Lions Action Vaincre le Cancer now includes the 24 member clubs of the District 113.
The association is recognised as a public utility. Therefore, cash donations made to it are deductible as special expenses for the donors within the limits set by article 109 of the law on income tax and under the conditions set by the grand-ducal regulation implementing article 112 of the same law.
It is financed by annual subscriptions paid by the various clubs, by contributions paid individually by the members of the Lions Clubs and by donations allocated by third parties on the occasion of
- a birth, marriage or death,
- the opening or re-opening of a shop,
- the inauguration or anniversary of a company,
- etc.
