Ecological works
In collaboration with the Administration de la Nature et des Forêts, the Lycée Technique Agricole and the Comité National de Défense Sociale, section Naturaarbechten.
Our continent is experiencing environmental problems such as water management, loss of biodiversity and climate change in general.
For the past twenty years, an ecological site with the character of a dry orchid lawn has been managed on an annual basis, with the aim of maintaining the site's open character through management work.
In this case, protecting nature and promoting biodiversity requires human intervention.
The work consists of mowing the overgrowth of shrubby stumps, which without our intervention would jeopardize the development of this open site. The mechanical work is carried out by staff from the Comité National de Défense Sociale. This natural environment association employs people with difficulties in the job market.
From May/June onwards, the results of our work can be admired, as the site will be covered with flowering plants and orchids, along with a procession of animals, including butterflies. In this way, our site will have been an important step in the development of local biodiversity.
On Saturday, March 9, 2024, around twenty nature-lovers (Lions and non-Lions) gathered on the heights of Diekirch to carry out our annual ecological workcamp in good spirits and glorious weather.
