New Year's Concert 2023
7.500€ for the "Fondation Kriibskrank Kanner"
On January 21, 2023, the representatives of the four Service Clubs organizing the New Year's Concert 2023, namely Lions Amitié, Soroptimist Luxembourg Moselle, Rotary Luxembourg Horizon, Fondation Kiwanis and the Conservatoire de la ville de Luxembourg handed over a check for 7.500,- Euros to Mrs. Anne Goeres, Director of the "Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner" (help for children suffering from cancer)
Mr. Paul Mootz greeted the audience on behalf of the organizers and explained that the donation came from the proceeds of the New Year's Charity Concert that took place on January 8, 2023 at the Conservatory under the patronage of the City of Luxembourg and the Ministry of Family and Integration. This was the 14th concert organized jointly by the four Service Clubs mentioned above. It benefited from the voluntary collaboration of about thirty young people, pupils and students of the Conservatory, divided into different percussion ensembles under the direction of Netty Glesener, Emmanuel Baudry and Michel Mootz. With their enthusiasm and know-how, the young musicians enchanted the audience.
The program included original works for percussion ensembles as well as arrangements by Netty Glesener such as "Africa" (Toto), "The Muppets Meet", Michael Jackson Medley, "Mercy, Mercy" and the famous "Petersburger Schlittenfahrt".
Two promising young soloists, Anne Bausch on piano and Pierre Bausch on violin, also put their talents to good use with a brilliant performance of a medley from Leonhard Bernstein's "West Side Story".
Another highlight of the concert was the presentation of a work for organ and percussion trio by the young Luxembourg composer Georges Sadeler, performed by Paul Kayser, organ, Sven Hoscheit, Louis Muller and Galdric Subirana, percussions.
On behalf of the "Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner", Anne Goeres thanked the organizers and the musicians for their commitment and then presented the Foundation which, for more than 30 years, has been accompanying the families of children suffering from cancer or rare life-threatening diseases. Its multi-disciplinary team offers individual support to the little patient and his or her family from the time of diagnosis until the child's remission. Psychological and social support as well as educational and recreational activities help to improve the condition of the sick child. The offer also includes an administrative and financial service.
In addition, the foundation undertakes awareness campaigns and actively supports pediatric oncology research with one goal: to treat better and more. It should be noted that the Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner is financed exclusively through the generosity of the general public and undergoes an annual external audit as well as the requirements of Don en Confiance Luxembourg of which it is a founding member.
The 15th New Year's Charity Concert will take place on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
