On May 5, 2025, an emotional and heartfelt ceremony took place in the prestigious setting of the “19 Liberté” in Spuerkeess: the presentation of the 2025 Lions Award to the OMEGA 90 association and its dedicated volunteers by Lions International - District 113 of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
In the presence of His Royal Highness Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, the evening paid tribute to those who work, often behind the scenes, to alleviate the suffering of people at the end of their lives, to accompany their loved ones through their ordeal, and to offer dignified and humane support to those who are grieving.
In a particularly moving speech, Monique Isebaert, Governor of Lions District 113, praised the deep commitment of the OMEGA 90 teams, particularly that of its president, Diane Dhur, and her predecessors. She highlighted the association's comprehensive approach to palliative care, which combines physical, psychological, and spiritual support.
The Minister for Family Affairs, Mr. Max Hahn, emphasized the demanding nature of the volunteers' mission, who undergo 165 hours of training over the course of a year, and the wealth of services offered by the non-profit organization, such as counseling for the bereaved and support for children and young people coping with the loss of a loved one.
The highlight of the evening was the official presentation of the Lions Award to Ms. Diane Dhur, president of OMEGA 90, and its director Fabian Weiser, by the Hereditary Grand Duke and Governor Monique Isebaert. Ms. Dhur, a long-time volunteer, then gave an emotional acceptance speech, paying tribute to the values of solidarity, service, and dedication that are dear to Lions International.
This exceptional ceremony, organized and moderated by Lions Award coordinator Jean-Claude Koenig and beautifully accompanied by young pianist Carla Bellucci, concluded with a warm reception, symbolizing a community united by compassion and humanity.
