Lions Club Mameranus Project
A book market for social aid projects
Strassen. For more than 30 years now, the Lions Club Mameranus, in collaboration with the shopping centre La Belle Etoile in Strassen, has organised a book market that has become more and more popular every year. As always, the proceeds of this organisation go integrally to the Social Commission of the L.C. Mameranus, whose members examine the applications of associations with a social purpose from Switzerland or abroad on the basis of carefully defined criteria, and also help people who have no other social assistance.
The most recent example is a family from Syria that was able to move into a flat in Esch/Alzette from a foyer thanks to the efforts of the LCM's social commission. In addition, the son was able to successfully complete his apprenticeship as a cook thanks to financial support.
Thanks to a project of the L.C. Mameranus, a Ukrainian family of four was also able to benefit from financial help last year after arriving in Luxembourg.
In Luxembourg itself, as in previous years, it was possible to financially support the socially oriented activities of several institutions. Examples include the Bletz asbl (post-covid care by neuropsychologists), the Association Luxembourg Alzheimer, the Association Therapie Equestre and the ALAN asbl - Maladies Rares.
To enable the Lions Club Mameranus to help people who are not exactly on the sunny side of life in 2022/23, as well as institutions that need money to help others, a book market will be held again this year at Schueberfouer time, in the mall of Belle Etoile streets (next to Maison du Monde), from Thursday 1 September to Monday 5 September inclusive. Rare antiques, reference books, cookery books, children's books and numerous novels and crime novels in several languages, only in the best condition, are offered here.
