On May 14, 2024, Jean-Philippe CHRISTIENNE, Governor of Lions District 113 - Luxembourg, and the members of the Prix Lions Jury invited guests to the PRIX LIONS 2024 AWARDS at the Spuerkeess at "19 Liberté" in Luxembourg.

The Prix Lions 2024 was awarded to Mr. Yannick Lieners for his "Plooschter-Projet", which aims to raise awareness and encourage Luxembourg residents to register and be tested as potential bone marrow or stem cell donors, in order to increase the chances of recovery for patients suffering from myeloid leukemia.

The academic session was honored by the presence of HRH Crown Grand Duke Guillaume, Honorary Governor of Lions Luxembourg.

After a welcome from Madame Françoise Thoma, Managing Director of Spuerkeess, Lions District 113 Governor Jean-Philippe Christienne welcomed all the guests and reviewed the history of the Lions Award and the many laureates honored since it was first presented in 1971.

After a laudatio by Mr Michel Knepper, Honorary President of the Luxembourg Triathlon Federation and Vice-President of the Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee, on the winner who, a great sportsman, has been suffering from leukemia since 2014, it was Governor Jean-Philippe Christienne and Mr Jean-Claude Koenig, spokesman for the Jury, who presented Mr Yannick Lieners with the Lions 2024 Award.

In his acceptance speech, Yannick Lieners explained what it means to be a sportsman and a cancer patient, and how he took the decision to publicize his illness and use the audience reached to raise awareness through the "Plooschter Projet", literally the bandage project, aimed at encouraging people to donate blood and register as stem cell donors. It was to the large number of volunteers who support the "Plooschter Project" that Yannick Lieners wished to dedicate this high recognition, of which he was proud and encouraged.

The trio Pierre Kremer (trumpet), Paul Kayser (piano) and Tom Reiff (bass) provided the musical backdrop for the evening. The Spuerkeess offered the closing cocktail for the Lions 2024 Award.
